Starting Saturday, Californians can get their documents notarized online without having to physically meet with a notary public, thanks to a new law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The bill, which was first introduced in the state legislature in 2018, finally made its way to the governor’s desk this year and was signed into law on Saturday. The new law will allow California notaries to notarize documents electronically, as long as the signer is physically present in the state and appears on a live video feed with the notary.

This is a big win for Californians who have had to either physically go to a notary public in order to get their documents notarized, or hire a mobile notary to come to them. With remote online notarization, all you need is a internet connection and a webcam.
