As vacancies rise, some landlords are offering one-time concessions to attract renters, instead of cutting rents, according to a new report from Redfin.

The most common concession being offered is a free month of rent, followed by help with moving costs and free parking. Landlords are also offering shorter lease terms and are being more flexible with move-in dates.

While these concessions can help attract tenants, they can also add to a landlord’s costs. And, if concessions become the new norm, they could eventually lead to higher rents.
